Acid Reflux
Acid reflux, often termed Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD) when chronic, is a prevalent digestive condition affecting approximately 20% of UK adults. It is caused by stomach acid leaking into the oesophagus due to a weakened lower oesophageal sphincter (LOS) and results in symptoms like heartburn and a sour taste. It can be managed via over-the-counter antacids or clinical-strength proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
